Orientation

Orientation is designed to welcome new students and acquaint them with the university and important policies and procedures.

Office Hours

Times where your instructor will be available to meet with or contact for extra help, assistance, or questions with a course.

Syllabus

This is the general timeline for a course. It will have important information about how to contact your instructor, the details for your assignments, and due dates. You should check every course syllabus before the course even begins so you can start planning your calendar.

FAFSA

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid. This is a required form that must be completed every single year that you are a student in order to be eligible for federal student aid. Your tax information from the previous year will be used for the majority of the document, so be sure to have that information handy as you are filling it out.

First Generation Students

This term means that this is the first person in an immediate family to attend college.

GPA

Grade Point Average. This number is determined by using a 4-point scale

The number of total points is added up and then divided by the number of classes taken, giving you the average of all the earned points.

Adult Learner

An adult learner is a person who is generally 25 years or older who is involved in forms of learning.

Online Learner

Online learner refers to a person taking a course, earning a degree, or participating in any other kind of educational endeavor via the internet rather than the traditional face-to-face format.

Registrar

This is a department on campus that houses academic records such as transcripts, schedules, and grades.

Satisfactory Academic Progress

Students must make satisfactory academic progress in order to remain enrolled and to maintain a current status with financial aid. Progress is based on a number of factors including the number of courses a student is taking and their cumulative GPA.
